Set within the attractive conservation village of Elsecar, Elsecar Heritage Centre is a unique family attraction and a working hub of industry. With a nearby park, canal-side walks and access to the Trans Pennine Trail, Elsecar Heritage Centre is a fascinating day out for all the family.
Visitors to Elsecar Heritage Centre will find an interesting variety of individual craft workshops, artist studios, antique centres and exhibitions alongside a children’s indoor play centre, cafe and a historical steam railway. The restored ironworks and colliery workshops are also home to Elsecar Visitor Centre which houses a small exhibition about Elsecar’s past.
Admission to the site is free, although some events may charge a small entry fee.
Our family-friendly offer
We want children to get to know the local museums on their doorstep and to feel inspired by what they find. Young people tell us that they like museum visits because they help to improve their relationships with their classmates and teachers, giving them the chance to get to know each other better in a unique environment. Our programme is work in progress and we want to provide an excellent service which really meets the ongoing, changing needs of schools, teachers and pupils.
Full access available to assistance dogs.
There is wheelchair access to Elsecar Heritage Centre and most areas of the Centre are accessible by wheelchair. Due to the historical nature of the buildings, some areas may be difficult to access.
The site is fully wheelchair and mobility vehicle accessible.
Disabled toilets are available on site.
