The Old Rep is a young people driven theatre situated on Station Street in the centre of Birmingham. We present a year-round programme of theatre, dance, comedy, musicals and creative workshops. In 2016, we were the proud winners of Best Small Theatre/Arts Venue, Birmingham in the What’s On Reader Awards.
The Old Rep is an iconic venue that occupies a unique place in theatre history as Britain’s first purpose-built repertory theatre. Opened in 1913, The Old Rep was the original home the Birmingham Repertory Company led by Sir Barry Jackson, who moved to their new site on Broad Street in 1971.
Just as in the days of the repertory company where young actors would come from all over the country to learn their craft, The Old Rep strives to engage, educate and entertain the next generation of artists and theatre lovers. With a high quality programme of events, The Old Rep is a creative hub that showcases professional productions as well as nurturing talent by providing a platform to showcase amateur performances.
We are dedicated to providing space for young people to craft a career in the arts and we offer a wide range of training opportunities within production, theatre management, marketing and technical theatre.

Our family-friendly offer
The Old Rep programmes regular family friendly performances and workshops. We offer Babes in Arms tickets and Family Tickets for selected events, and have a range of kid-friendly snacks and drinks available from our bars. The Old Rep theatre is a breast feeding friendly venue and we provide step stools in the toilets for small children.
At The Old Rep we will do whatever we can to ensure that all visitors enjoy their time with us! If you require any guidance or help getting to your seat please ask one of our Front of House team, dressed in a burgundy t-shirt, who will be happy to help.
Due to the age of the theatre and its Grade II listed status, we do have a lot of stairs, no lifts and the auditorium is quite steeply raked. If you are unable to climb stairs we recommend that you use our Hinckley Street entrance for step-free access and do not book seating in the balcony as this is only accessible by stairs.
Wheelchair positions are located in the first row of the stalls (seats AA2 and AA8). These spaces cannot be booked online to ensure that we are always able to accommodate wheelchair users. Carers/disabled companions are eligible for a complimentary ticket to sit next to the wheelchair user. Please call the Box Office on 0121 359 9444 to book the wheelchair spaces.
If you require the use of an accessibility toilet you will find this in our Hinckley Bar.
The nearest parking for Blue Badge holders is the nearby Dudley Street car park (B5 4PJ) and Markets Multi-Storey car park, Moat Lane (B5 6BS).
We are an assistance dog friendly theatre. You are welcome to take assistance dogs into the auditorium with you or we would be happy to look after your dog in our Box Office or Hinckley Bar.
Hearing Impaired patrons
For audience members who are hearing impaired, the theatre is fitted with a Senheisser infra-red hearing enhancement system. To use this, please collect a receiver from the Box Office.
Selected performances in our programme will be relaxed performances which are designed for children with conditions on the autistic spectrum or those who would benefit from a more relaxed environment. During a relaxed performance, the auditorium will not be as dark as usual and the sound will be quieter.
British Sign Language (BSL) Interpreted Performances
Selected performances in our programme will be BSL interpreted for visitors who are D/deaf or have hearing impairments.
We welcome everybody to The Old Rep and aim to make your visit as enjoyable as possible. If you have any specific access requirements or there is anything we can do to make your visit easier, please advise our Box Office team.
