The magnificent building stands proud in the historic market town of Barnard Castle housing internationally significant collections of fine and decorative arts. Purpose built in the 19th century by John and Joséphine Bowes, the Museum has a wonderful story to tell.

The interior of the Museum is a centre of activity for families, with a summer exhibition, a packed programme of school holiday events, fun activity trails, traditional games, colouring activities and our exclusive family explorer backpacks.
The Museum grounds are also a rich and diverse environment, with family-friendly orienteering, nature trails, a dedicated play park and a picnic area.
