TakeOff Festival, England’s leading children’s theatre festival returns to County Durham 21-26 October 2019.
The annual festival returns to multiple venues across County Durham for a jam-packed week of over 70 performances, ending with a Festival Family Day in Durham City on Saturday 26 October. The festival is produced by Fantastic for Families Award Winner Theatre Hullabaloo and supported by Durham County Council.
Laura Case, Executive Director at Darlington-based Theatre Hullabaloo, which organises the Festival says:
“TakeOff Festival returns in 2019 with a programme of world-class theatre that’s better than ever. We have an outstanding programme for children to enjoy in their schools or in the local community across County Durham. With over 70 performances throughout the week in multiple venues across County Durham, we are confident that there is something to suit all ages”
Highlights for 2019 include Sky (Denmark), a lyrical dance piece for younger audiences aged 2-4 years and Jabberbabble (The Netherlands) a delightful show for children ages 4-7 and their families about four birds and one nest that’s entirely sung, as it should be with birds.
Older children aged 8+ will be taken on a thousand-year journey from fact to fiction and back again in a one-man, one-hour show, Is this a Dagger? The Story of Macbeth (Scotland)
Cllr Joy Allen, Cabinet member transformation, tourism and culture at Durham County Council, said: “We are delighted that TakeOff Festival is coming to County Durham this autumn and are proud to support such a dynamic and inspiring initiative.
“There are an unprecedented number of festivals and events taking place in County Durham in 2019, which is why we have named it a Year of Culture. TakeOff Festival is part of this, not only bringing families together, but helping to instil a love of theatre, culture and the arts among youngsters that will hopefully last a lifetime.”
The TakeOff Festival Family Day on Saturday 26 October will bring the festival to a close with world-class performances, creative play, street theatre and much more!
